I am a high school Sophomore, and I created Jaiv: Farmer’s Market. The goal of Jaiv is to promote sustainable organic farming in India.
Jaiv enables efficient local organic farmers markets and is built to both facilitate collaboration between organic farmers, customers, and the price setter. It’s simplicity and clean UI makes it easy to use.
Many farmers’ markets, including the market in which my grandmother sells her produce in Mangalore, India, function using a WhatsApp group chat with hundreds of farmers and customers. Prior to Jaiv, farmers texted their list of dozens of vegetables to the pricing agent who responded to each individual farmer with the prices for the week. The farmers’ listed their produce using these prices. This exercise was repeated every week before the start of the weekend farmer’s market.
Jaiv simplifies and streamlines communication for both the farmer and the pricing agent by unifying the list of produce and enabling a uniform price. The farmer selects their produce from a master list of fruits and vegetables. The pricing agent receives a unique list of the produce from each of the farmers. The pricing agent enters the prices in a single database from the previous week or updates the process based on current market prices. This is instantaneously shared with all the farmers and customers. The app enables customers and farmers to manage and access refreshed lists of the produce and their current prices each week.
