Readly is a subscription-based magazine app for tablets and smartphones, available in the US, UK Sweden, Germany and the Philippines. The app provides an all-you-can-read magazine service for $9.99 a month, with a vast US magazine catalog.
Also included on the app are up to 12 months’ worth of magazines’ back issues. US users also have access to titles from other international territories including UK, France, Germany, Sweden, India, the Philippines and Thailand.
The app allows users to organize their titles via favorites, recently read and downloaded. Users can also share content directly from the app via email, Twitter or Facebook. Each magazine takes a matter of seconds to download; and better still, downloaded magazines can also be accessed when there is no signal, making Readly the perfect solution to a boring commute. Once a new issue of a magazine comes out, this becomes instantly available on the platform; so no more waiting for the next issue of a subscription to arrive in the post. Users can also share content directly from the app via email, Twitter or Facebook. Readly will soon be launching user profiles, much akin to the Netflix model.
This digital model of magazine consumption attunes to modern society’s increasingly digital, tablet-driven habits. Consumers can now have an archive of magazines at their fingertips in one compact, easily navigable place. This means no more carting around a load of magazines at the airport, and no more waiting for your next fix of your favourite magazine.
What’s more, the wealth of magazine topics lends a certain serendipity factor, meaning consumers have the chance to flick through magazines they perhaps wouldn't ordinarily have read, let alone bought.
Readly is available to download from the App Store, Google Play, Amazon Appstore (for Kindle Fire) and Windows Marketplace.
