Moscow Metro app is a free of charge popular app for passengers of one of the largest public transport networks in the world – the Moscow Metro. Today the Moscow Metro has 335 stations and 789 km of tracks (including the Moscow Central Circle and the Moscow Central Diameters). More than 9,5 mln trips are made by metro daily.
The App was launched in January, 2017, and in November, 2020 it was updated and got a bunch of new features. This app has been downloaded over 4 mln times since the day of its release. General score of the app at all platforms – AppStore, Google Play and AppGallery – is 4.5 points. Every user in average spends about 1 minute 30 seconds daily using this app. The most popular app functions are: remote top up of Troika smart card (unified transport card), metro and city routes planning, Lost and Found service, fares transfer between transport cards.
The app was initially set to implement MaaS concept, and to provide its users with the maximum of useful features and to help the transport network functioning in the most efficient way.
The updated app helped to increase service speed by 3 times. Routes planning in the updated version became more convenient: passengers may plan the metro and city routes according to their preferences choosing the quickest route or the route with the fewest interchanges. New filters help passengers to find stations with coffee points, flower and souvenir shops.
Moscow Metro app helps passengers to plan multimodal routes: what exit to choose to go in the right direction, what stops of other public transport modes are there nearby. This function is supplemented by city map for planning further way if passenger would prefer walking.
Map functions were also extended. Now city map depicts public transport, private cars and biking routes. There are also some new functions: traffic jams, category search, favorites, history of routes and many others.
Since the beginning of the pandemic keeping the distance in public places is very important, that is why updated Moscow Metro app has new function that informs passengers about the occupancy of coming train car in real-time. Also, function that shows time when train arrives was added. Choosing the station in the App you will see useful information: maintenance works at this station, work details including the terms of works.
Passenger personal account
The App has a personal account, where passenger may manage Troika card online. Users who linked their Troika cards in personal account have no more worries about losing it – fares may be easily transferred to another transport card. There is an option to set an automatic card top up or turn on notifications about low balance. In addition, personal account shows scores in Gorod loyalty program that passengers get for Troika top up. The Troika card may be also used for purchases in partner pharmacies, shops and range of other places. Scores can be used to top up the phone balance and to be spent for public transport trips. Personal account saves history of trips and payments saved.
Chat bot Aleksandra
The updated App has metro chat bot. Its name is Aleksandra, which was chosen by metro passengers. Chat bot answers all questions 24/7. Passengers don’t need to spend time on searching necessary information anymore. AI in just seconds will help to fill up the request for Passenger Mobility service assistance (is a free service for low-mobility passengers of the Moscow Metro), send a request to Lost and Found service, give a historical note about metro, show working hours of stations and information about maintenance works, all necessary locations and contacts and many others. Chat bot processes more than 1000 requests daily. Its efficiency is 88%, which means AI cannot answer only 12% of all cases, and such a request is forwarded to a live operator.
