Recently we had an opportunity to speak with Stanislav Meshkov - the Founder of Umbrella IT about Life Lapse Stop Motion
Please share with us the backstory of what motivated you to create this app.
The idea of developing an app arose due to the client’s personal purposes. Since the first version of the application, the client has always been making creative content, stop motion videos, and tutorials. Subsequently, it was required to grow an app to expand users’ creative ability.
How is your app different than the rest of the market? Which unique need does it fill?
The application involves many functions for creating original videos, and users don't have to search for the same tools in different services. Life Lapse allows users to perform many functions in a few clicks:
- Shorten a video
- Apply a mask with different degrees of transparency
- Speed up and slow down the final video
- Use the boomerang option for single frames
- Apply different filters and customized color grading.
What is the coolest or most innovative feature of your app?
Creating a mask upon the user's request. It enables specifying boundaries, both strict and flexible, which allows detecting an area of overlap more precisely. A user may freely use a brush tool as an artist to bring the work to perfection.
The ability to create video content using only a smartphone, regardless of the user's skill level with video creation and editing tools, opens up opportunities for publishing more diverse and interesting content. It can be used in any area: travel, beauty, cooking, etc.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of the creation of this app?
The best part is having the final product in hand. The product enables transforming an ordinary video into an interesting video project that the audience will like with simple steps.
What surprised you most in your journey to create this app?
When developing an app, you face questions about the logic of this or that function every day. Sometimes even the tiniest function may affect the whole project. That’s why everyday communication with the team is key to successful project implementation.
How did you decide which platforms to release your app on and do you plan on releasing your app to other platforms?
At first, Life Lapse was available on iOS and Android platforms. However, after analyzing the most commonly used devices, we found that iOS-based devices outweighed. That was the reason we decided to implement the app on this platform first.
Which other mobile apps or technology have inspired you?
They were InShot, Photoshop, and various applications for photo and video editing.
What features do you hope to roll out to your app in the future?
Nowadays, the world is deeply involved in AI implementation in all areas of life. We are not an exception. With the help of AI, new users will get acquainted with the app’s functionality and abilities. As for the current users, they will always keep up with the latest updates. Introducing new technologies makes the work of the app more comfortable and fascinating.
And, of course, we remember to add new tutorial videos, which are always available and aim to inspire users to create their own videos.
Do you have any recommendations or advice for others wanting to create a mobile app?
The mobile apps for video editing market is highly competitive, so it is very important to stand out. Make your application unique and useful, and create a community around your product. This will help attract more users.
Don’t forget that app development is not only a technical process; it is also an exciting creative adventure. We wish you good luck in your endeavors!
