Recently we had an opportunity to speak with Shaun Savage, the CEO and Founder at GoShare about GoShare
Please share with us the backstory of what motivated you to create this app.
After serveral terrible experiences trying to rent a truck for a simple furniture move or a large purchase, I found myself wishing there was a simpler way. Renting a truck was complicated, time-consuming, and came with a ton of paperwork. As a fan of sharing economy companies, I wondered if a similar business model and technology could be used to connect truck owners with individuals like myself, that needed a truck on demand. Since that solution didn't exist at the time, I decided to create it.
What features do you hope to roll out to your app in the future?
We're listening to our customers and the delivery professionals that use the app and constantly rolling out improvements and updates. GoShare's app is only going to continue to get smarter and easier to use as we grow.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of the creation of this app?
One of the most rewarding aspects of creating and launching this app has been working with the community of moving and delivery contractors. GoShare projects average between $47 - $71 an hour in earnings. This is a lot higher than most gig companies. Hearing from them, how happy they are to use our service to find projects, and how the opportunity to have these extra, flexible earnings are making a difference in their lives and the quality of their families lives. It's humbling and we are so grateful.
What is the coolest or most innovative feature of your app?
The coolest thing about the app is how it connects people in real time. A customer can send out a project request and on average, it will get accepted by a local professional in their community within two minutes. Before GoShare, getting a quote and finding a delivery professional to help you move bulky items could take hours between online research, emailing and calling. Trying to find someone the same day would be an incredible scramble. Now, the whole process happens in a couple of minutes. It's easy.
What surprised you most in your journey to create this app?
This app was developed with consumers in mind. But, we quickly found that businesses and retailers were very interested in the app and the technology behind it. For these retailers, we become a virtual fleet. They can call up a delivery professional on demand, whenever they need one. It provides a better experience to their customers than traditional delivery services. And, it saves them the cost of maintenance and upkeep of their own fleet.
Which other mobile apps or technology have inspired you?
GoShare was inspired by the new technologies that facilitate peer-to-peer sharing, like Airbnb. We love the concept of connecting individuals to share their services and providing a mutual benefit. By using our software and taking out the traditional middle man, we really are able to offer incredible value for both customers and delivery professionals. Everyone is getting a better experience.
Do you have any recommendations or advice for others wanting to create a mobile app?
I'd advise others to always keep innovating, always keep improving. Even after you launch, your app shouldn't remain static. Your users will come to you with countless new ideas. Listen to them and be in touch with your community.
How did you decide which platforms to release your app on and do you plan on releasing your app to other platforms?
We launched the app for iOS and Android because we didn't want customers to be limited by their device type when using the service. We're happy with the current distribution.
How is your app different than the rest of the market? Which unique need does it fill?
The delivery and logistics market is not known for being very customer friendly. Customers rarely get to pick the day of their delivery and are often told to wait at home during a multi-hour delivery window for the drop-off. Who wants to use a vacation day to wait for a couch? GoShare really flips the script on this, empowering our users. The customer schedules the pickup time at their convenience. We can get delivery pros there in less than an hour, or be booked in advance. So, you can get your delivery the same day as your purchase. All our pros have to upkeep high customer ratings, pass background checks, and vehicle inspections. They are hardworking professionals and provide a high level of service that is often above and beyond what customers were expecting. The customer can track the project status, communicate with their delivery professional, and pay in the app. It really takes a service that used to involve long waits and lots of paperwork, and simplified it to a few easy taps of the screen.
