Recently we had an opportunity to speak with Wolfgang Baums , the Executive Partner at tAPPing forward GmbH about Judge it!

Please share with us the backstory of what motivated you to create this app.

Over the course of the last couple of years, my friends and me were often annoyed of endless discussions in group chats in common smartphone messengers. There seemed to be no good solution to jointly take decisions in a quick and straight-forward way, regardless of what to decide upon - Weekend trips, Joint gifts, Holidays, places to eat or to go out to. We felt an urgent need ourselves and thus did some research on available apps, their features and usability.

How did you decide which platforms to release your app on and do you plan on releasing your app to other platforms?

We released on Android and iOS. Currently we do not expect to Launch on others platforms.

How is your app different than the rest of the market? Which unique need does it fill?

We think our app is unique in various aspects. It is to our knowledge the only app out there which facilitates quick decisions and gives people real-time stats on votings for all kinds of questions - date/time frame, text, photo and link questions. Of utmost importance: you can combine all of these types of questions within just one voting. Also, it has a chat for each voting created, you can subsequently add participants or answer choices, and you can create Groups (soccer club, poker group...) or share a link to your voting via social networks or a webpage.

What features do you hope to roll out to your app in the future?

We have several ideas we keep adding to a "to do-list". However, for us it is crucial to build something users will find useful. We want our users to ultimately decide which features they want. With Judge it!, we can easily get their feedback and let them decide and build their own app.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of the creation of this app?

To see how things build up step by step from a vision you once had and jointly shared and finally see the app in the stores. This only works with a great team and perseverance especially in the most difficult times.

What is the coolest or most innovative feature of your app?

The breadth of the functions described above and with it, the scope of usage together with the high usability we paid special attention to is in our view outstanding. You can use Judge it! just for the fun of it, jointly voting with friends on funny pics or questions, but also come to quick decisions with loads of People - on anything.

What surprised you most in your journey to create this app?

How hard it is to really get a good app out the door, feature-, usability- and performance-wise, and at the same time handle Marketing and everything around it. Even though you read and hear so much about it, I guess it will always prove even harder.

Which other mobile apps or technology have inspired you?

Feature-wise pretty much "none", since we really do think Judge it! is somehow unique. However, sure there are apps out there that in parts of what we offer. That helps to see and find out what is good about them and what not. Layout and usability-wise, there are tons of great apps out there, though it would be hard to say which one in the end really made a difference for us.

Do you have any recommendations or advice for others wanting to create a mobile app?

It is a long and tedious way. Don't get distracted, focus. And if you believe in it, create it.
