about Piano Tiles 2
Please share with us the backstory of what motivated you to create this app.
Piano Tiles 2 has more than 600 million players to date, and it is one of the world's most downloaded gaming apps on both Android and iOS. It was named Best Game of 2016 by Google Play, Best Game Design 2016 by Red Dot Awards, and The Best Mobile App Awards 2016. It also reached #1 in many national and gaming lists in the App Store.
What surprised you most in your journey to create this app?
We didn't expect Piano Tiles 2 would become such popular game worldwide, with so many fans from different nations, genders, and ages. We were pleasantly surprised when we found out that Piano Tiles 2 played an important role for gamers on YouTube. This is one of the main places where players acknowledged the existence of our game.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of the creation of this app?
Many children have told us that they've fallen in love with classical music and actually learned how to play the piano as a result of Piano Tiles 2. Feedback like this, and recognition from luminaries such as the Red Dot Awards, makes our attention to detail very worthwhile.
What is the coolest or most innovative feature of your app?
Piano Tiles 2 can make you a world-class piano performer, playing high quality music from various genres, including classical, pop, and seasonal favorites. We even collaborate with famous composers and include their original music in the game. Piano Tiles 2 is known for crazy double-tapping, long-tapping, and slide tiles gameplay to add more challenges. We also include "Master Challenge" mode to test how fast people can tap in one second.
Do you have any recommendations or advice for others wanting to create a mobile app?
My advice to other app developers is to connect with your users and determine their needs. If you cater to your users' needs, you will create an app that is highly retainable.
How did you decide which platforms to release your app on and do you plan on releasing your app to other platforms?
Our goal for Piano Tiles 2 is to make available in as many countries and languages as possible. Therefore, we chose the most reliable platforms, which are the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store.
How is your app different than the rest of the market? Which unique need does it fill?
Jill Shih, VP of Product & User Experience at Cheetah Mobile, said “Winning a Game Design Red Dot is an embodiment of Cheetah's firm commitment to excellence. It's a tremendous honor to know that the Red Dot Awards, one of the most competitive and prestigious product design awards in the world, echoes our pursuit of exceptional design and aesthetics for mobile apps. Our User Experience and Creative Center teams continuously strive to reach unprecedented levels of user experience in the mobile space."
Which other mobile apps or technology have inspired you?
Candy Crush Saga from King, Pokemon Go from Niantic, Inc, and many other successful apps were our inspiration.
