Recently we had an opportunity to speak with Amber Vodegel, the COO at Health and parenting about Pregnancy+

Please share with us the backstory of what motivated you to create this app.

We created Pregnancy+ after becoming pregnant for the first time and finding ourselves looking for information and not finding a single App that answered to all our needs. Expecting parents are full of doubts and questions and definitely need extensive information and community support in a single place, especially for tech savvy generations.

What features do you hope to roll out to your app in the future?

The new 3D foetal engine we are building is mind blowing. We have a very talented team working to make the images as close as possible to reality. Parents-to-be will soon be able to see the development of their unborn child through beautiful interactive images, for every week of the pregnancy.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of the creation of this app?

Having 45% of UK mums using Pregnancy+ and becoming the number one pregnancy app in the App Store and Google Play is our biggest achievement, especially for an App that was only launched in 2012.

What is the coolest or most innovative feature of your app?

It is difficult to pick one, I'd say in addition to our presence in 9 languages, we offer a bundle of features that are unique such as:

- specific information for single mums, twin pregnancies and partners

What surprised you most in your journey to create this app?

We have managed to secure the number one position for Pregnancy+ despite the presence of over 2,000 pregnancy apps in both IOS and Android platforms. I believe that our availability in 9 languages and growing, makes us more in tune with our mums to be around the globe.

Which other mobile apps or technology have inspired you?

Headspace is a great designed App and easy to use. Regarding technology - the continuing improvements around Augmented Reality for mobile devices will have great potential.

Do you have any recommendations or advice for others wanting to create a mobile app?

Focus on offering quality and keep things simple so that you can make changes easily. The tech world moves fast so your app needs to stay up to date to be part of the game.

How did you decide which platforms to release your app on and do you plan on releasing your app to other platforms?

We currently only focus on the iTunes App Store and the Google Play Store. We may also expand to WeChat and Amazon in the near future.

How is your app different than the rest of the market? Which unique need does it fill?

Our App design is very engaging and visual with easy to read content to help parents-to-be enjoy their journey to parenthood.
