about Argentum Camera
How is your app different than the rest of the market? Which unique need does it fill?
We built Argentum with focus on the process of capturing a photo. By taking complicated settings out of the equation we let photographers concentrate on the subject and composition of the shot. We believe the moment of taking a shot is the part where you can really get creative. And it looks like right now the App Store is lacking in apps that put focus on this part of photography process being oversaturated with various editors.
Please share with us the backstory of what motivated you to create this app.
Argentum Camera is a two people project. We are both passionate about photography, especially street photography for which we use our iPhones a lot. We believe that photography should be about capturing images, fixing moments in time, focusing on what's happening in the frame. And most of the currently available photo apps put more focus on the post processing, all the different effects you can apply to the picture after you've taken it. We wanted to put the experience of taking a photo in the center, so we built Argentum to be purely a camera app.
What features do you hope to roll out to your app in the future?
Our main focus right now is figuring out how to bring realistic film like grain to the photos you take with Argentum. We are also working on a couple more features to make Argentum even more preferable for street photographers.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of the creation of this app?
It's been really inspiring to hear back from Argentum's users. We were pleasantly surprised by how many messages we got with incredible input that we can turn into ideas and features to make our camera even better.
What is the coolest or most innovative feature of your app?
Argentum adapts to the shift in handling and places the shutter button under your thumb making it easy to use with one hand even on large iPhones. Its double exposure mode is also pretty cool. It lets you superimpose two different images in a single photo with real-time preview.
Which other mobile apps or technology have inspired you?
Most of inspiration for Argentum actually came from the old school analogue cameras. We both loved the way they looked, the way it felt to take photos back then, the magic that happened when you caught a moment in the viewfinder and clicked the shutter button.
Do you have any recommendations or advice for others wanting to create a mobile app?
Work on something you're really passionate about and have fun in the process.
How did you decide which platforms to release your app on and do you plan on releasing your app to other platforms?
We started out with the iOS because with iOS we could reach the devices with guaranteed best optics. iOS is also an easier start since there's no need to think of all the different types of devices the app can be launched on and we could focus on the features and look of Argentum. Currently we remain focused on the iOS but we don't completely shut down the idea of releasing Argentum for other platforms in the future.
