We had a chance to speak to Amber Rao, the VP, Client Services and Operations at CarrotNewYork about My Bright Smile

Could you share a challenging factor of the development or marketing process?

Our biggest challenge was something parents face every day: how do you get kids to brush their teeth for two-minutes? Our solution was creating an original two minute song that makes brushing fun and helps kids develop an understanding of how long they should brush.

Do you plan on releasing your app to other platforms as well?

Not at this time. It is currently available on iTunes and Google Play for phones and tablets.

If you could describe your app in ONE word, what would it be and why?

“Interactive," because it extends the BSBF program with games, challenges, and music that truly engages while it educates.

Were there any unexpected surprises post-release of your app?

Our success! We generated over 4,000 installations in one month.

What features do you hope to roll out to your app in the future?

Making the app available in other languages; Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures is a global initiative.

What is the coolest or most innovative feature of your app?

The “Brush Away Plaque" game because it allows kids to simulate brushing. This can help kids to not only visualize but actually understand and improve their brushing skills.

What is your favorite mobile app to date and which have inspired you?

MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art) has a fabulous app for kids. Think you can't spend 3 or 4 hours in a museum with children? The MoMA app entertains and truly engages while introducing inspiring works of art.

What was your main objective or motivation for creating your mobile app?

  • Engage kids age 4-6 through digital education that elevates the learning and meets current expectations of educators, children, and parents
  • Extend the reach of program components into the home via mobile devices
  • Reinforce Colgate's key oral health messages and continue to build on the success of the Bright Smiles, Bright Futures (BSBF) program
